Elvas is a Portuguese municipality, former episcopal city and frontier fortress of easternmost central Portugal, located in the district of Portalegre in Alentejo. It is situated about 230 km east of Lisbon, and about 15 km west of the Spanish fortress of Badajoz, by the Madrid-Badajoz-Lisbon railway. The municipality population was 23,078, in an area of 631.29 km2. The city itself had a population of 16,640.

The Alcazaba of Badajoz is an ancient Moorish citadel in Badajoz, Extremadura, western Spain. The alcazaba as it now appears was built by the Almohads in the 12th century, although it probably existed from the 9th century, when Badajoz was founded. In the 11th and 12th centuries it was the residence of the rulers of the taifa of Badajoz.

Castelar Park (Parque de Castelar) is located in Badajoz, in Extremadura, Spain. Situated south of Guadiana River, its features include tall palm trees and a central pond, frequented by ducks and pigeons; peacocks wander around the park. There are monuments dedicated to the romanticist writer Carolina Coronado, who lived in Badajoz, and to Luis Chamizo Trigueros, who was born in Guareña. Although Castelar remained neglected for many years, it was renovated during the tenure of Mayor Miguel Angel Celdran Matute (1996-present), making it a venue for fairs, exhibitions, entertainment and leisure. Parque Infantil (Playground) is located across the street.
