Ski Apache(Opens in a new window)

Ski Apache is a ski resort in southern New Mexico, on the slopes of Sierra Blanca. It is owned and operated, since 1963, by the Mescalero Apache Tribe. Ski Apache is the only ski resort in New Mexico with its own gondola lift. Runs in the resort include Apache Bowl, an intermediate run on the upper west side of the mountain known for its wide, open space, and views from the top of Chairlift 6; Capitan, a steep, challenging pitch that drops 475 feet; and the Gondola Liftline, a steep and narrow advanced run that runs from the top of the mountain to the main lodge. Another run is Snow Park, which is known for being one of the most difficult beginner runs in the world, steeper than some blues at the resort. Ski Apache has nine lifts including one gondola lift, three Quad Chairlifts, and four triple chairlifts. The resort gets an average annual snowfall of fifteen feet.

Fort Stanton(Opens in a new window)

Fort Stanton (built 1855) was a U.S. military fort built in New Mexico in the United States. It was established to protect settlements along the Rio Bonito in the Apache Wars. Kit Carson, John "Black Jack" Pershing, Billy the Kid, and Buffalo Soldiers of the 9th Cavalry all lived here.

Ruidoso River Museum(Opens in a new window)

The Ruidoso River Museum is located in Ruidoso, New Mexico. The collection features artifacts, photographs and documents relating to the notable figures of the Old West and those involved in the Lincoln County War, including Billy the Kid, sheriffs William Brady and Pat Garrett and lawyer and businessman Alexander McSween. It houses the world's largest collection of Billy the Kid and Pat Garrett items. The museum also houses a range of archaeological relics and celebrity memorabilia. Notable museum items include Pat Garrett's solid gold sheriff's badge, Billy the Kid's rifle, and Pat Garrett's original Colt Model 1877 Thunderer revolver.

Ruidoso Lookout Tower(Opens in a new window)

Ruidoso Lookout Tower was completed in 1940 by the U.S. Forest Service to serve as a fire lookout tower within Lincoln National Forest, New Mexico, United States. It remains in active use for detection of urban/suburban fires in the town of Ruidoso, which has grown over the years to surround the tower. The structure is a 30’ Aermotor tower with metal catwalks and is topped with a 14’x14’ wooden cab.
