Kurnool is a city in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India. It formerly served as the capital of Andhra State (1953–1956) and will most likely be the judicial capital of Andhra Pradesh from 2024. The city is often referred to as "The Gateway of Rayalaseema". Kurnool is also known as The City of Gem Stones. It also serves as the district headquarters of its Kurnool district. census, it is the fifth most populous city in the state with a population of 484,327. It is located on the banks of the Tungabhadra river. Although the area has been inhabited for thousands of years, modern Kurnool was founded in the 16th century CE with the construction of the Konda Reddy Fort.

The Tungabhadra River is a river in India that starts and flows through the state of Karnataka during most of its course, before flowing along the border between Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh and ultimately joining the Krishna River along the border of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. In the epic Ramayana, the Tungabhadra River was known by the name of Pampa.

Handri-Neeva Sujala Sravanthi project is the longest water canal project in Rayalaseema. The project is conceived to provide irrigation facilities and reliable drinking water supply, by drawing flood waters from the Srisailam reservoir. The first phase commences at Malyala, and irrigates six lakh acres in four districts of Rayalaseema, while the second phase is set to provide irrigation facilities for and drinking water to Chittoor district. This canal links the Handri River, Penna River, Chitravathi River, Papagni River, Mandavya River, Bahuda River, Cheyyeru River, Gargeya River, Vedavati River, Palar River and many other rivers in the Rayalaseema region. The canal is spread across Kurnool, Ananthapur, Kadapa and Chittoor districts. The canal feeds several reservoirs and water tanks in the region. In order to achieve full requirements of drinking and irrigation water of the region, more than 50 Tmcft water is required.

Orvakal Rock Garden, or Oravakallu Rock Garden, is a 1000 acre park with igneous rock formations between pools of water. It is located on NH-18 highway, outside the village of Orvakal, about 20 km from Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, southern India. There is a restaurant, boating, a cave museum and picnic areas on the site.

Sunkesula is a barrage across the Tungabhadra river in Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh, India. This was built during the British Raj for transporting goods on K. C. Canal.
