Museo de Sabanero(Opens in a new window)

The Museo de Sabanero is a museum in Liberia, Costa Rica, founded in 1990 by an executive decree issued by President Rafael Ángel Calderón Fournier. The museum focuses on cowboy culture in Northwest Costa Rica, as Liberia was historically known for raising livestock. Liberia and the surrounding region have a tropical savanna climate, noticeably drier than the rest of the country, which supports cattle ranching. The museum is located in the Casa de Culture, a colonial-era house. The museum has a notable collection of lassos and saddleware (including many decorated saddles), spurs, and lanterns, given that the majority of Guanacastecos make a living as cowboys with their Brahma cattle.

Africa Safari Adventure Park(Opens in a new window)

The Africa Safari Adventure Park (previously África mía Safari) is a private wildlife park of approximately 100 hectares, located in El Salto, south of the city of Liberia, Costa Rica. All animals have an African safari motif with enclosures for animals such as zebras, warthogs and giraffes all of which multiply in the safari. The park also provides zip lines, nature trails through rain forest with a prominent waterfall and a lagoon for kayaking. The vast alluvial plain of the Guanacaste Province and swampy wetlands provide the Safari with an atmosphere that resembles that of certain plains of Africa.

Lomas de Barbudal Biological Reserve(Opens in a new window)

The Lomas de Barbudal Biological Reserve is a nature reserve of Costa Rica, part of the Tempisque Conservation Area, that covers an area of 6536 acre in the Guanacaste Province, 15 kilometers southwest of Bagaces. The Barbudal Lomas are ignimbritic plateaux which end in rocky cliffs that rise to 125 metres above the Tempisque River.

Guanacaste National Park, in Spanish Parque Nacional Guanacaste, is part of the Area de Conservación Guanacaste World Heritage Site, is a National Park in the northern part of Costa Rica, from the slopes of the Orosí and Cacao volcanoes west to the Interamerican Highway where it is adjacent to the Santa Rosa National Park. It was created in 1989, partially due to the campaigning and fund-raising of Dr. Daniel Janzen to allow a corridor between the dry forest and rain forest areas which many species migrate between seasonally. The park covers an area of approximately 340 square kilometers, and includes 140 species of mammals, over 300 birds, 100 amphibians and reptiles, and over 10,000 species of insects that have been identified. It was this high density of bio-diversity that encouraged the Costa Rican government to protect this area. The Guanacaste National Park weaves the neighboring Santa Rosa National Park with the high altitude forests of the two volcanoes, Orosi and Cacao, and the rainforest of the Caribbean in the country's north.
