Jajce (Јајце) is a small city in Bosnia & Herzegovina, central not only geographically but also culturally. Throughout Bosnia's long history, Jajce has been the home of medieval kings, Ottoman governors, and a range of different ethnic groups, as well as being one of President Tito's earliest Communist strongholds. According to the 2013 census, the town has a population of 7,172 inhabitants, with 27,258 inhabitants in the municipality, It is situated in the region of Bosanska Krajina, on the crossroads between Banja Luka, Mrkonjić Grad and Donji Vakuf, on the confluence of the rivers Pliva and Vrbas.

For hundreds of years this region was the ultimate stronghold of the Bosnian Kingdom, with town of Jajce as permanent seat of the last kings of Bosnian Kingdom. The entire region of Jajce is rich in natural heritage that cannot be viewed in isolation from the built heritage. In Jajce, these two components are closely intermingled.

The Walled city of Jajce is a medieval fortress with long defensive walls and a large citadel, situated in Jajce, Bosnia and Herzegovina. It constituted the fortified capital of the Bosnian Kingdom.

Saint Mary's Church (Serbo-Croat-Bosnian: Crkva svete Marije/ Црква свете Марије), later Sultan Suleiman's Mosque (Sultan-Sulejmanova džamija/ Султан-Сулејманова џамија) or Fethija (Фетхија, from the Turkish word fethetti, meaning "conquered"), was a place of worship in Jajce, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Along with the remnants of the adjoining Saint Luke's Bell Tower (Zvonik svetog Luke/Звоник светог Луке), it is a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The buildings are located in the historic centre of the city of Jajce, at the foot of the citadel.

The Church of St John in Podmilačje is a national monument near Jajce, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The church dates back at least to 1461, and belonged to the parish of Jajce until 1878, when it became an independent parish. It remained in use as a Catholic church throughout the Ottoman period. It became "a shared space of multiconfessional pilgrimage", and was the sole medieval church in Bosnia to survive in continuous use. Catholic, Orthodox and Muslim pilgrims would travel to the church for St John's Eve. Extensive renovations and rebuilding were completed in 1910. On 1 March 1993, the church was completely destroyed by Bosnian Serbs during the Bosnian War. In 2000 the church was rebuilt, and in 2003 the Commission to preserve national monuments of Bosnia and Herzegovina gave the site protected designation as a National Monument.
