Praia is a concelho (municipality) of Cape Verde. It is situated in the southern part of the island of Santiago. Its seat is the city Praia, the capital of Cape Verde. Its population was 130,271 at the 2010 census. The municipality consists of one freguesia (civil parish), Nossa Senhora da Graça. The city hall is located in the Plateau part of the city which is the city center south of Praça Alexandre Albuquerque or 12 de Setembro. East is Rua Serpa Pinto. Other nearby landmarks includes the Praia Pro-Cathedral, the Presidential Palace and the Banco Comercial do Atlântico (BCA), until 1975, it was Banco Nacional Ultramarino who occupied that space. The building has colonial neoclassical architecture and has two stories with an extra third storey in the middle portion, white facade in its windows and two yellow stripes in the middle part.

Praça Alexandre Albuquerque (Portuguese for Albuquerque Square), also known as Praça 12 de Setembro is the main square of the capital city of Praia and Cape Verde located in the southcenter of the Platô (or Plateau). The square is named after the Portuguese colonial governor Caetano Alexandre de Almeida e Albuquerque who ran from 1869 until 1876, he was also passionate about card playing; therefore, each of the four corners of the square is marked by a suit. One of some features still named after a Portuguese governor that is still named after independence in 1975. It is 97 meters long and 74 meters wide and has a space of 7,178 square meters (0.71 ha). The square was first built in 1826 together with its adjacent buildings in the north, some were rebuilt, it is not known what occupied the area before the square was built

Quartel Jaime Mota(Opens in a new window)

Quartel Jaime Mota is a former military barrack located on the southern end of Avenida Andrade Corvo in Praia, Cape Verde, on the highest part of the historic area of the plateau (Platô). Located next to Palácio Presidencial to its west, monuments including one dedicated to Diogo Gomes in the west and to Praça Alexandre Albuquerque which features two monuments including one of Serpa Pinto, it overlooks the Atlantic along with its beach, Gambôa, the city's port and harbor. It was built in 1826 with colonial style architecture and one of the oldest in the city, below is the roundabout that intersects with the shoreline road.

Farol de D. Maria Pia(Opens in a new window)

Farol de Dona Maria Pia, better known as the Farol da Ponta Temerosa or Farol da Praia is a lighthouse in the southern point of the island of Santiago in northeastern Cape Verde approximately 3.5 km southeast of the capital city of Praia inside the neighborhood of Prainha where much of the foreign embassies are located. It marks the limits of Praia Harbor with the rest of the Atlantic, the limits extends to Ponta do Porto (de Visconde) and northeast to Ponta das Bicudas. The western entrance of the Port of Praia is to the west, it is connected with a small road linking the ferry portion of the port.
