Komotini (Greek: Κομοτηνή, Turkish: Gümülcine, Bulgarian: Гюмюрджина) is a city in Greece, and the seat of Aegean Thrace and the province of Rhodope. The city is home to the Democritus University of Thrace, founded in 1973. Komotini is also home to a minority of former Ottoman citizens who were excluded from population exchanges.
