Sunderland is a port city in Tyne and Wear, North East England. It is located at the mouth of the River Wear on the North Sea, approximately 10 mi south-east of Newcastle upon Tyne. The city has a population of 168,277, making it the second largest settlement in the North East after Newcastle. It is the administrative centre of the metropolitan borough of the same name.
