What do all the ticket types mean? Which are the best ones?
There are typically three types of Renfe tickets available: Promo, Promo+ and Flexible. Each fare type offers the freedom to travel your way – see the below details to find out which best suits your needs.
Promo Fares are the least expensive fares and include heavily discounted offers (sometimes up to 70% depending on the train and time of purchase). Changes are not allowed and they are also non-refundable.
Promo+ tickets are discounted fares that offer some flexibility. If you need to rebook or cancel: there is a cancellation fee of 30%, which will be deducted from the refund amount.
IDA / Return (Semi-Flexible)
IDA / Return tickets are discounted fares that offer some flexibility. If you need to rebook or cancel: individual (one-way) routes can be cancelled at a cost of 40% of the total price, while a full return journey can be cancelled with a fee of 15%.
Flexible Fares are ideal for passengers who may need to change their travel plans. These tickets can be cancelled with a fee of only 5%, which will be deducted from the refund amount.
