How do I change or cancel my ticket?
We’ll do our best to help, but it will depend on the type of ticket you have purchased. While most airfares permit changes/cancellations with a fee charged by the airline, there is a chance that some fares do not permit any changes and are non-refundable. Simply reach out to us at email@example.com and we will be happy to advise accordingly.
If you try and contact the airline directly to make date/time changes, you might be referred back to us, and we are happy to help! Rome2rio does not charge any fees in addition to airline fees for changes and cancellations.
What happens if my flight is cancelled or delayed?
Delays and flight cancellations are inevitable and unpredictable, so knowing what to do can make all the difference when travelling. The airline may provide some compensation to keep you happy, but this differs widely depending on the airline. Sometimes compensation is good customer service, and other times it’s the law.
As a general rule, if your flight is delayed or cancelled and it was:
- within the airline’s control, such as mechanical issues or crewing issues, most airlines will either carry you on another scheduled service as soon as space is available or give you a refund. It’s at the airline’s discretion, but some will provide meals, refreshments, accommodation and transfers appropriate to the length of the delay.
- outside of the airline’s control, such as bad weather or volcano ash clouds, airlines will usually try to help you get to your destination, but they won’t be responsible for paying any costs or expenses you may incur as a result of the delay or cancellation.
What happens if I miss my flight due to a personal emergency?
Emergencies happen from time to time. If you have missed your flight, or know that you’re going to, your first priority should be to get in contact with the airline. If you’re not at the airport yet, log onto the airport’s website and call your airline’s local number. This should allow you to connect to a gate agent or ticketing representative much more quickly than if you called the airline’s general number. You may be required to pay a change fee and the difference in price if the fare has increased since you purchased your original ticket, but calling ahead will possibly save you from also having to pay a no-show fee or forfeiting the entire ticket.
Be mindful that if you miss one flight on a ticket of multiple flights, your remaining flights are likely to be cancelled by the airline. You will need to contact the airline to discuss what is required to reinstate your booking.
