Are there any age discounts for my tickets?

The young and the wise are occasionally entitled to a discount based on the passenger’s age at the time of travel. To help you figure out if an age discount applies to your booking with Rome2rio, please refer to your transport operator below.

Select your transport operator:

National Rail (UK Rail)

Children aged 5-15
Children 5 to 15 years old can obtain a 50% discount on most tickets. Restrictions apply.

Infant/children aged 0-4
Children aged 0-4 can travel for free without a seat if accompanied by a fare-paying adult, and they do not require a ticket. If a seat is required, you’ll need to buy a child ticket.

Youth
There is no general youth discount offered on UK Rail tickets unless you have a discount Railcard.

Senior 60+
With a valid Senior Railcard anyone 60 years or over can save up to 30% on all Anytime, Off-Peak and Advance fares. Restrictions apply.

Amtrak (USA Rail)

Children aged 2-12
Children 2 to 12 years old ride for half-price when accompanied by a full-fare paying adult. A maximum of two discounted children fares is permitted per adult fare. Adult tickets will need to be purchased for any subsequent children beyond this ratio.

Infants (under age 2)
One infant under 2 years old may ride free with each fare-paying adult. Infants are not entitled to a seat. Additional children under age 2 are permitted with each adult traveller under the 50% child discount policy.

Youth
There is no youth discount offered by Amtrak. Passengers aged 13-64 are considered adults.

Seniors
Travellers 65 years and over are eligible to receive a 10% discount on a selection of fares with most Amtrak trains. In general, this discount does not apply to Saver fares, Flexible fares, Business Class, First Class, or sleeping accommodation, the Auto Train or Acela Express. Additional restrictions may apply.

Please note: If you are a senior, we recommend comparing the price of senior tickets and adult tickets. This is because the cheaper Amtrak fares that do not offer a senior discount may only display for adults.

Renfe (Spain Rail)

Children aged 4-13
Children 4 to 13 years old can obtain a 40% discount on the General/Base rate when accompanied by a full-fare paying adult.

Infant/children aged 0-3
Children aged 0-3 can travel for free without a seat if accompanied by an adult, but they still require a ticket. Complimentary infant tickets must be obtained at the station prior to boarding train. If you would prefer to book a seat for your child, you will need to buy a child ticket.

Youth aged 14-25
Youth discounts of up to 50% are only available on the more expensive Flexible fares for travellers aged 14 to 25. You must buy a Tarjeta Joven card (Spanish Youth card) in Spain for around €11 to be entitled to this discount.

Senior (60+)

Children between 6 and 14 years of age travel for free (when travelling with their parent or grandparents) yet they must have a ticket, so please include them as a passenger in your reservation. You must add the optional seat reservation if you’re booking 2nd class. If you’re booking 1st class, the seat reservation is automatically added.

Please note: children between 6 and 14 years of age cannot travel for free on cross-border journeys between Germany and France. You must buy them a ticket if travelling between these two countries.

If they are travelling alone or with someone who is not a parent or grandparent, children under 15 will pay 50% of the normal ticket price. Please note: this type of fare is currently not available on Rome2rio. We recommend booking a separate ticket at www.bahn.com.
